For first time users - Log onto the floppy drive or subdirectory which
contains the Digi-Comm files. Then type DEMOINST. This will create
the proper subdirectory on your hard-disk. Please read DG.DOC for overview.
Digi-Comm files must reside in a subdirectory called DIGICOM. You do not
have to create this subdirectory, the install program will do everything.
When DEMOINST has completed successfully, it will erase all Digi-Comm files
from the current directory which you are now reading this file. This is to
ensure no future PATH conflicts when accessing the program. The original
ZIP file will remain intact however.
After installation, type GO to run Digi-Comm.
I decided to write Digi-Comm for several reasons. After obtaining a
Kenwood TS-950SD I purchased several of the available commercial computer
interface programs, none of which worked correctly with the 950. Next, I
downloaded every Kenwood interface program on every BBS I could find.
None of them actually made operation of the transceiver any easier nor were
they any fun to play with. None offered mouse support and none were really
useful for the handicapped operator. I tried to rise to the challenge.
I thought I would find a lot of enthusiasm for the ideal program especially
with a hands free voice recognition system to be incorporated in the near
future. Multiple requests for volunteer beta testers has yielded no one.
I'm willing to change or adapt the program to anyone's suggestion so that
the final product will fulfill as many Ham's needs. Right now Digi-Comm
is geared to the HF rigs but its mouse, graphics, digital voice playback-
recording, voice recognition operation and remote capabilities would be
ideal for any rig in any mode at any frequency. I have gotten what I
wanted: 1) a slick program to run my 950 and 2) better programming
experience. The rest is up to you. Your response will tell me if there
is a need and desire for programs like this, otherwise ' I'm outta here '.
